Welcome to Bhagavad-gita India : A Project to Disseminate Srila Prabhupada's Original Books in India beta 5.0

HARE KRISHNA: This site endeavours to distribute Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's ORIGINAL and UNEDITED BOOKS in India and in Indian Languages.

After His Divine Grace's departure (from our material vision) in 1977, some of His works were edited (modified) by the BBT (The Bhaktivedanata Book Trust) editors with an aim to improve them and make them closer to Srila Prabhupada's original manuscripts.

As a result the Original Books of Srila Prabhupada (specially in Indian Languages) are no longer accessible to the devotees.

Our research shows only the following books have been significantly modified, the rest of the books have very minor editorial corrections. Hence we concentrate on providing the following UNEDITED ORIGINAL Books of His Divine Grace in Indian Languages along with their ORIGINAL English versions. OTHER ORIGINAL (PRE 1978) BOOKS and SRILA PRABHUPADA BONAFIDE DISCIPLES BOOKS FOR SALE ARE:

Hindi Translation of the ORIGINAL 1972 MACMILLAN REPRINT. (Bhagavad-gita Yatharoop, Bhagavad-gita Yatharup, Bhagavad-gita Yatharupa, Bhagavad Geeta) FREE DOWNLOAD (.pdf file)

THIS IS SRILA PRABHUPADA'S ORIGINAL 'SRIMAD BHAGAVAT-GITA AS IT IS IN HINDI', THE ONE SOLD IN THE MARKET IS THE TRANSLATION OF THE REVISED VERSION

Shrimad-Bhagavad-gita Yatharupa (Bhagavad-gita As It Is in Hindi), was translated by Shri Rajiv Gupta in 1977-1978. The first print run was 8000 copies in 1979, followed by yearly reprints and by 1989 1,40,000 copies had been printed and distributed by the BBT.

Unfortunately after over 25 years, it is very difficult to locate a physical copy of this book anywhere. A few days before His departure, Srila Prabhupada had a personal conversation with Rajiv Gupta regarding the Hindi version of the Bhagavad-gita, wherein His Divine Grace instructed Rajiv Gupta to enthusiastically translate and distribute all His books (Audio and Transcript coming soon).

In 1990, the BBT published the 'revised and enlarged' edition of Shrimad Bhagavad-gita Yatharupa, which was the Hindi Translation of the edited (1983) Bhagavad-gita As It Is. The translator was Dr. ShivaGopala Mishra. The current (2016) version of Srimad Bhagavad-gita Yatharupa does not even mention the name of the translator.

As expected the 'revised and enlarged' version of the Srimad-Bhagavad-gita Yatharupa was not as satisfying to the devotees as the Original one. After years of searching, and by Srila Prabhupada's Divine Mercy, ShrimadBhagavadGita Yatharupa is now available for free download from here (.pdf file).

SRI CAITANYA CARITAMRTA, 1974 EDITION, COMPLETE SET, ORIGINAL (UNEDITED), 17 VOLUMES in ENGLISH

SHRI CHAITANYA CHARITAMRITA, SHIRI CAITANYA CHARITAMRIT. (NEW REPRINTING OF THE ORIGINAL EDITION).

The life and teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in 17 volumes featuring the Bengali text with English equivalents, translation and elaborate commentary. Profusely illustrated with hundreds of beautiful paintings and photographs. Original 1974 edition.

The Chaitanya Charitamrita is one of the primary biographies detailing the life and teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, written by Sri Krishna Das Kaviraja Goswami.

Sri Caitanya-caritamrta is the principal work on the life and teachings of Sri Krishna Caitanya, the Supreme Personality of Godhead appearing as His own devotee. He was the pioneer of a great social and religious movement beginning in India about 500 years ago that has directly and indirectly influenced the course of religious and philosophical thinking throughout the world. While the west was exploring the physical world, in India Sri Krishna Chaitanya was exploring inward, exhibiting unparalleled spiritual potency, and discovering the truths of consciousness and transcendental reality.

As a young boy Sri Caitanya overwhelmed and astounded scholars, establishing His own school at the age of sixteen. Within His lifetime He transformed India in four respects: philosophically, by defeating the greatest philosophers of His day; socially, by opposing the blindly rigid caste system; politically, by organizing India's first civil disobedience movement against repression by the Mohammedan government; and spiritually, by freely distributing nonsectarian love of God. Sri Chaitanya-Charitamrta presents Sri Chaitanya as the Golden Avatar, the incarnation of Krishna in this age in the form of His devotee. Lord Chaitanya introduced the chanting of the holy names of God as the prescribed method of God-realization for our time. He began what is today called the Hare Krishna movement, since the movement's founder, Srila Prabhupada, comes in the Chaitanya line of spiritual masters.

This English translation with commentary by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, reveals his consummate Bengali and Sanskrit scholarship, his intimate familiarity with the precepts of Sri Caitanya, and his pure devotion to God. This is a great opportunity to get Srila Prabhupada’s original Sri Caitanya-caritamrta set for a very reasonable price. This is limited printing so please take advantage of it as soon as possible. Many devotees have been asking for the original Caitanya-caritamrta set since it went out of print in the 1990’s.

Srila Prabhupada says Bhagavad-gita is the introductory text on the science of Krishna consciousness, Srimad-Bhagavatam is the advanced course and Sri Caitanya-caitamrta is the post-graduate study of spiritual life: “So study this Caitanya-caritamrta. Now we have got this English edition, very elaborately described, following the footsteps of our Guru Maharaja, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada. So there is no such edition of Caitanya-caritamrta, very elaborately described. But it can be understood by the advanced student. It can be… And so…
“Advanced, you can, anyone, you can become advanced. Advanced means at least one should understand that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If you simply understand these two words, that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then you are advanced. It is not very difficult. Everything, all Vedic literature, they are meant for understanding Krsna. Vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyam [Bg. 15.15]. So if you simply understand… What is that understanding? That Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead… if you accept these few words, then you are advanced student, immediately. Take it from me, that simply this conviction, that “Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead,” then you are advanced student in spiritual life.” (from Srila Prabhupada’s class on Cc. Adi 1.1, Mayapur March 25, 1975)

Exact Reproduction of Original Books: This Caitanya-caritamrta set is an exact replica of the first printing by Bhaktivedanta Book Trust in 1974-1975. All original color plates are included.

KRSNA, THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, "Krishna Book" (1970, Original in 2 Volumes)

Kṛṣṇa Book, A Summary Study of Śrīla Vyāsadeva's Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Tenth Canto.
2017 Reprinting of the Classic 1970 Edition 'Silver Cover' by ISKCON PRESS.

Krsna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead tells the story of Krishna's life from Srimad-Bhagavatam,the summit of the ancient Vedas from India. This book is presented as a collection of beautiful readable short-stories and illustrations. It forms a biography of the life of Krishna, who was present in India over five thousand years ago. The stories develop from Lord Krishna's birth to His childhood and youth. Krishna plays with His boyfriends in the forest while looking after the cows and calves and incidentally He kills so many demons. On some full-moon nights He dances with Radha and His beautiful girl friends, the gopis in the rasa lila.

This is the original account of the extraordinary activities of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa (Krishna), who appeared on this earth over 5,000 years ago. Find out why He has enchanted people for centuries. Always remember Krishna, God. That was the goal of the rich spiritual culture that flourished in India for thousands of years. Even today Lord Krishna is remembered and glorified through monumental achievements of art, architecture, drama, music, dance and philosophy. Fifty centuries ago Krishna descended from the transcendental world to show us His eternal spiritual activities. His acts reveal the fullest concept of God and attract us to join Him again. They are tangible subjects upon which to meditate. Sri Krishna's life is fascinating and highly entertaining. Even children love the stories. His life is full of deep philosophical wisdom and spiritual insight, and is a window into the personality, thoughts, and feelings of God. Krsna Book is a summary study of the Tenth Canto of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Without the Sanskrit of the Bhāgavatam it's an easy way to read yourself into the spiritual realm.

For literally thousands of years, the Vedic literatures of India have represented a vast treasure house of knowledge and delight for millions upon millions of readers. Unfortunately, many of the most interesting of these ancient Sanskrit texts have remained inaccessible to the modern reader in the West – that is, until now. This book contains an original account of the extraordinary pastimes of Lord Krishna, who appeared on this planet over 5,000 years ago. Absorb yourself in its pages and come directly in touch with his marvelous characteristics and glorious deeds. Join Lord Krishna in a long-forgotten time as he enchants all the residents of the magical land of Vrindavana and simultaneously battles a fantastic array of wizards and warriors wholly bent upon his destruction. Sri Krishna's pastimes are not only fascinating, charming and highly entertaining but are full of deep philosophic wisdom and spiritual insight as well. Anyone who takes the time to read this one-of-a-kind literature will be impressed by its relevance to contemporary human concerns.

The most comprehensive and authoritativc Vedic scriptural literature is the Srimad-Bhagavatam ( "The Beautiful Story of the Personality of Godhead"), the mature contribution of Srila Vyasadeva, the compiler of the Vedas. Of the twelve cantos of Srimad-Bhiigavatam, the tenth canto is considered the most confidential, since it describes all the transcendental pastimes of Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Krsna is a summary study of the tenth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.

The activities of Krishna, which appear to be like those of an ordinary human being, can only be properly understood with the help of a bona fide spiritual master fully realized in the knowledge of this transcendental nature. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is authorized by an unbreakable disciplic succession of spiritual masters going back thousands of years to the time when Krsna appeared. Because he is the representative of the disciplic succession for this age and because of his complete immersion in love of Krishna Prabhupada is uniquely qualified to present Krsna as He is.

Sukadeva Gosvami, the original speaker of Srimad-Bhagavatam, has declared that there are three classes of men and that the pastimes of Krishna will be relished by each of them. The liberated soul who is no longer interested in mundane topics most certainly hears about Krishna with the highest pleasure. The person who is trying to become liberated will abo enjoy these topics of the Personality of Godhead, which purify anyone who hears them. And even the gross materialist will enjoy hearing about Krsna because of the resemblance between His affairs with the gopis and the loving affairs of ordinary boys and girls.

Forseeing the publication of this book, with its fifty-eight full-color illustrations, Prabhupada commented, "No other religion has such a full concept of God. I think our Krsna book will convince them. Whoesever reads it will become a devotee of Krsna.

The Book Set Contains two Hardbound volumes:

THE SCIENCE OF SELF REALIZATION

Original 1977 Edition, 2015 Reprint Krishna Books Inc.(KBI)

In this book you will discover the timeless science that great teachers have spoken for millennia. The Science of Self-Realization opens up the secrets of the self within, nature and the universe, and the Supreme Self within and without.

Here the worlds;s most distinguished teacher of the the science of self-realization, and global ambassador of Krishna Consciousness, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, talks about meditating and practicing yoga in the modern age, gaining liberation from the law of karma, achieving subconsciousness, and much more....

The distinction is made when a human being is inquisitive - "Why have I been put into this miserable condition? Is there any remedy for it? Is there any perpetual, eternal life? I do not want to die. I want to live very happily and peacefully. Is there a chance for this? What is that method? What is that science?" When these inquiries are there and steps are taken to answer these questions, that is human civilization. (p.252)

RAJA-VIDYA : The King of Knowledge

1973 Original Edition, 2016 Reprint Krishna Books Inc.(KBI)

Raja-Vidya: The King of Knowledge is a collection of transcribed lectures by Srila Prabhupada on the ninth chapter of the Bhagavad-gita.
In that section of the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna why He is revealing divine knowledge to him; because Arjuna is free from envy. Srila Prabhupada points out that we can also understand the Bhagavad-gita to the degree we don't resent God's greatness. By knowing God as the source of everything, we can know everything else we need to know; we are spirit and not matter. Loving God is the ultimate goal of life. If we think we are everything, we will envy God, and the Bhagavad-gita won't make sense to us. The King of Knowledge suggests practical ways to enhance our self-knowledge and understanding of the Supreme Person. The result of such knowledge is freedom from the anxieties of this temporary, ever-changing world.

This Knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting and it is joyfully performed.

Contents: Rāja-vidyā: The King of Knowledge, Knowledge Beyond Saṁsāra, Knowledge of Kṛṣṇa's Energies, Knowledge by Way of the Mahātmās-Great Souls, Paramparā: Knowledge Through Disciplic Succession, Knowledge of Kṛṣṇa's Appearances and Activities, Knowledge as Faith in Guru and Surrender to Kṛṣṇa, Action in Knowledge of Kṛṣṇa, GLOSSARY, Index.

YAMUNA DEVI A LIFE OF UNALLOYED DEVOTION

A 2 volume biography and memoir of Yamuna Devi, 1080 Pages in 2 Volumes, 2014.

A two-volume illustrated memoir of Yamuna devi—one of the first pioneers to help establish the Hare Krishna movement in the western world—whose singing, cookbooks, artistry, and compassion continue to inspire new generations of Krishna devotees. Yamuna Devi Dasi was one of the first pioneers to help establish the Hare Krishna movement in the western world. She met her guru, Srila Prabhupada, in New York City in 1966, and from then on became one of the movement's most visible and influential members. Her passion for excellence pervaded every project she became involved with, from recording a best-selling Hare Krishna album with George Harrison of the Beatles, personally cooking for Srila Prabhupada during his first tour of India with Western disciples, publishing two award-winning cookbooks, or building ashrams for devotional practice in Oregon and British Columbia.

An expert calligrapher, artisan, chef, and public speaker, her legacy continues to inspire new generations of Krishna devotees all over the world. This two volume illustrated memoir and biography unfolds the inspiring internal and external spiritual odyssey of Yamuna’s devotional life, recalled in her memories, talks, journals and writings, as well as through the remembrances of the author, Dinatarini devi—her godsister and companion of 37 years—and other associates and friends. It is richly supplemented with many rare photos, Yamuna’s calligraphic works, illustrations and art.

A new two-volume work will give readers an in-depth, personal look at the journey of one of the most beloved devotees in ISKCON – Yamuna Devi, an ISKCON pioneer and one of the first disciples of Srila Prabhupada. Yamuna passed away on December 20th 2011 at 69, and “Yamuna Devi: A Life of Unalloyed Devotion” is itself a loving offering of devotion from some of the many devotees who were deeply impacted by her. This is evident in the high quality of the glossy-paged hardback set and its design by Raghu Consbruck, which conveys Yamuna’s personal style and artistic sense. The lettering of her name on the covers, for example, is lifted from her own calligraphied poem to Lord Krishna; while the back covers of the books feature her stained-glass style artwork. Although many on the large team behind the book, such as researcher Kartamasa Das, delivered it as a heartfelt service to Yamuna, no one is the book more personal to than author Dinatarini Devi, Yamuna’s companion in devotional life for 37 years. “Virtually days after she passed we began the process of research for this book,” she says. “It was a cathartic experience for me. It was a good way for me to channel my grief at her passing, and to deal with the change in my life.”

Interestingly, “A Life of Unalloyed Devotion” started out as a memoir by Yamuna herself, after many godbrothers and godsisters had asked her to write about her extraordinary life. But while she tried at intermittent periods thoughout her life, her intrinsic humility left her feeling unqualified to write about her experiences with Srila Prabhupada, and led to her to put the work off or even write herself out of her own biography. “She would give credit to everyone else but herself for things she in fact played a central role in,” Dinatarini says. “It was just very hard for her to put herself in a position of prominence. And anyone who knew Yamuna knew this about her.” Before she passed away, Yamuna asked Dinatarini several times to complete her memoir for her. The result, at 1,080 pages, is an exhaustive and touchingly personal tapestry of Yamuna’s entire life, woven from Yamuna’s own written words, Dinatarini’s narrative, and recently recovered interviews from the Prabhupada-Lilamrita sessions conducted in the 1980s. The two volumes—Preparing an Offering of Love, which focuses on Yamuna’s earlier life; and Offering the Gift of Bhakti to Others, which covers her later years—bring more insight and depth into the stories that made Yamuna famous.

They detail how she learned to cook from Srila Prabhupada; how she and her friends established the second-ever temple in ISKCON in San Francisco; how she and two other couples started the Hare Krishna Movement in England; and how she recorded the song “Govindam” with George Harrison. And of course we hear about how she traveled with Prabhupada in India; and how her epic cookbook Lord Krishna’s Cuisine was named International Association of Culinary Professionals Cookbook of the Year. But there are also gems we’re less familiar with. We hear about Yamuna’s early life, such as her simple childhood in Montana and Oregon, and her interests in ballet and calligraphy. We see a copy of Yamuna’s initiation certificate which she designed herself on Prabhupada request. And we see a handwritten 1968 letter from Srila Prabhupada to Yamuna and her then husband Guru Das: “Dear Guru das and Yamuna devi,” it reads. “Be good boy and girl and always chant the HARE KRISHNA mantra and you will be so pleased with the result. Yamuna you are little better than Janaki but don’t get puffed up and be good to those a little less fortunate.” The twist? Prabhupada was dictating the letter to Yamuna’s sister Janaki, whose handwriting it’s in, showing his humor and affectionate teasing relationship with her. “Seeing some of the wonderfully human and almost childlike interactions that he had with his devotees, both men and women, is invaluable,” says Dinatarini.

The book also openly talks about Yamuna’s challenges while working in a major managerial role in ISKCON Vrindavan, India, at a time in ISKCON’s history when women endured much mistreatment. Feeling denigrated simply due to her gender, Yamuna left the Krishna Balarama temple project in 1974 to start a women’s ashram in Oregon with her godsister Dinatarini. Upon doing so, she met with criticism from male leaders who said she could never make advancement in spiritual life as she had “left ISKCON” and the association of devotees. Yamuna wrote to Prabhupada to tell him that she had not left Krishna consciousness or her dedication to him, and to express her fear that she didn’t have his blessings anymore. In 1975, Prabhupada met Yamuna in LA, and with tears in his eyes, told her that he had missed her very much at the opening of the Krishna Balarama temple. The two laughed and joked like old friends, and then responding to her letter, Prabhupada told Yamuna that “ISKCON is where you are chanting the Holy Names of Krishna,” and that “Assocation can be two or two hundred. But you must be compatible. If you are two and you are compatible you can go back to Godhead. But if you are two hundred and not compatible” -- here he opened his eyes wide – “Then no one will make any advancement.”

Yamuna Devi Dasi personified “unalloyed love.” From the onset of her commitment to the process of Krishna Consciousness, she was unwavering in her determination to know Krishna as the only “lovable object.” Those who had the fortune of her association during her lifetime witnessed her uninhibited joy in all aspects of Krishna Consciousness, her natural humility, all-embracing compassion, disinterest in personal honor and distinction, and earnest desire to encourage others as Srila Prabhupada had encouraged her. This illustrated memoir and biography unfolds the inspiring internal and external spiritual odyssey of Yamuna’s devotional life, recalled in her memories, talks, journals and writings, as well as through the remembrances of the author, Dinatarini devi, her Godsister and companion of 37 years, and other associates and friends. It is richly supplemented with many rare photos, Yamuna’s calligraphic works, illustrations and art.

The Book Set Contains two Hardbound volumes(parts) :

Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, at her sister’s wedding in 1965 and begins her first tentative steps in bhakti. In San Francisco she and a group of friends establish a vibrant temple and celebrate Rathayatra. Yamuna is initiated, married and begins cooking for Srila Prabhupada. She, her husband and two other couples then travel to London and ignite the fire of sankirtan in England. She records with George Harrison at Apple Studios and helps establish a temple in London. Her Guru’s promise to take her to India is fulfilled in 1970, when she travels with the World Sankirtan Party throughout India. Despite hardships and obstacles along the path, the seed of Yamuna’s bhakti grows and matures into a life of unalloyed devotion.
Part 2 Offering the Gift of Bhakti to Others: Yamuna faces challenges and austerities while serving in Vrindavan. In 1974, she leaves the Krishna-Balarama Temple project and moves to Oregon with her Godsister, Dinatarini, to begin a women’s ashram. Her beloved Deities, named Sri Sri Radha-Banabehari by Srila Prabhupada, are installed there. In the ensuing years, Yamuna and Dinatarini move extensively, each move bringing its own challenges and inspirations. In 1984, Yamuna’s epic cookbook, Lord Krishna’s Cuisine: The Art of Indian Vegetarian Cooking, is released to unprecedented praise. In 1998, Yamuna and Dinatarini, seeking a simpler life, move Saranagati Village to live off-the-grid in a self-built Vastu designed home. Here, Yamuna lovingly shares kirtan, classes, deity seva, and devotional inspiration. Health issues later force Yamuna to move to Florida, where she continues to inspire others in bhakti until her passing.
